ABOUT

DIAMOND BLACKFAN ANEMIA

DBA is rare blood disorder usually diagnosed during the first year of life.

DBA-afflicted children are unable to produce red blood cells. The only treatment options for DBA patients are corticosteroids and blood transfusions.

Our 2 year old son Jack Pereira is one of these children. Diagnosed at 12 weeks with DBA, Jack relies on regular blood transfusions to survive. He receives blood every 3 weeks. He will continue to need one for the rest of his life, unless he goes into remission or doctors decide he is a candidate for a stem cell transplant
